I still remember my first fashion show. The brand was Preen, the year circa 2002, and I’d just started my first job in journalism on the features desk at the Evening Standard magazine. Its designers, Thea Bregazzi and Justin Thornton, founded their label out of a small boutique in Portobello Green where I’d discovered their deconstructed designs as a teenager some years prior. By this point, though, they were producing full-on runway collections, and would soon be dressing the likes of Amy Winehouse, so the ticket I’d snagged – albeit standing – was pretty hot.
