Two of the most iconic brands in the automotive industry – Recaro and BBS – face battles to stay in business after both companies’ financial troubles were revealed within four days of each other. Iconic German seat manufacturer Recaro, a staple fitment to many performance Fords of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, has filed for bankruptcy, while fellow German firm and famous wheel builder, BBS also faces uncertainty, the business having fallen into insolvency for the fifth time since 2007. Recaro, which has long supplied major brands including Ford, was approved for self-administration by the Esslingen District Court on July 30, having been in the hands of a private investment corporation for the last four years. The Capri badge is making a comeback. At the start of July, Ford posted a social media reel with former footballer, Eric Cantona trying to plug an electric charger into a Mk1 Capri with the words ‘THE LEGEND IS BACK’ and 10.07.24 written on the rear screen. Along came July 10 and Ford lifted the covers off its all-new Capri, a moniker that hasn’t been seen on a new car in the UK and Europe since 1986. Terminally-rotten old Fords Reader, Dave Mulligan has been away on his summer holiday, to the even-sunnier climes of Portugal, and while there couldn’t resist a touch of classic Fiesta-spotting. Over to Dave: “The Mk2 is located at the Central Police Station in the city of Caldas da Rainha north of Lisbon, It appears to have been recovered from abandonment, and has been there at least two years,” he reckons.
