I love the month of October. Autumn brings a much needed respite from our hot Midwest summers and turns the landscape into a beautiful show of colors. Also, Halloween has been my favorite holiday for as long as I can remember, so I couldn't resist having a little fun with the popular hashtag #quiltyghost for my photo, above! Once I’ve used a batting in a quilt, I write what I liked or disliked about it on the batting’s label. This practice keeps me from accidentally using a batting again if I didn’t like it. DESIGN #1: Using Superior Threads So Fine #517, Handi Quilter Education Manager Kim Sandberg quilted an echo stitch ¼" outside of the leaf, then worked her way to the inside of the leaf using the “bouncing bananas” curved stitching in the stem and echo-stitching a line ½" inside the perimeter of the leaf (Diagram 1). The eye is drawn to the unquilted part of the design. Starting in the bottom left-hand corner, Kim quilted straight lines by stitching from the outer edge of the block into the line of echo stitching, then back again on the same line.
